American pilot
of the 367th Fighter Group
killed at Saint-Charles-de-Percy
on July 8th 1944 for our freedom

Lieutenant Delbert Schmid, USAAF, 367th Fighter Group, was shot down aboard his Lightning on July 3rd, 1944, and saved by his parachute. Sheltered and protected by the locals, he had to evacuate with them and met his death on the road to Saint Charles de Percy with numerous civilians July 8th.
