Clandestine airstrip for resupplying the resistance. A C-47 landed here for the first time at 3am on 7 July 1944. It could not return to England that night, so rested here all day on 7 July. The airstrip was behind the industrial buildings (by the monument) below the wooded hill.
Operation Dakota, the first landing in Nazi occupied France by a USAAF C-47 on a mission to aide the French resistance of the Ain and Haut Jura, happened on this clandestine airfield on the night of 6-7 July 1944.
