The N roadside of Monperthuis contains a memorial honoring a US aviator.

Take the D923 W from Chartres to Courville-sur-Eure and then the D920 W to Colonard-Corubert. Turn S onto Le Buisson to Corubert. Turn E at the T then right towards the Saint-Hilaire castle. The monument is on the N side of the road.
In memory of Cpt W.E. Johnson Jr 356th FG 360th FS who was shot down in aerial combat on April 10th 1944.

While returning from a B-24 bombing mission over Tours, the P-47 escort was attacked by German fighters. Shot down in aerial combat, Cpt William E. Johnson Jr. of the 360th FS 356th FG crashed on April 10th 1944 at 1116 at the helm of his P-47 D6 “Kitten” 42-42-74639.
