An isolated boulder commemorating American aviators by the side of a road.
From the A36 get off onto the D50 at Baumes-Les-Dames. Take it southbound to Vercel-Villedieu-le-Camp. From there, take the D132 south to Avoudrey then the D31 north to Pierrefontaine-les-Varans. The monument is 1000m from the edge of Avoudrey, 100m down a road branching north from the D31.
The B-17 Why Worry II flying fortress of the 452nd BG, 8th US Air Force, landed here while in difficulty on May 27th, 1944.
Memorial inaugurated on July 14th 2004 in the presence of Mr Martin Smith, former crew member.
No wounded, 6 prisoners, and 4 crew members smuggled into Switzerland by the underground.
